I'm 5'4, fairly slim (size 2), straight/rectangular shape, and the ones I've tried (Athleta, Eddie Bauer) somehow make me look like a wide log -I feel like the length is always wrong. For walks in the summer, I just wear shorts even though I guess I'm too old (nearly 50).

I agree. But I go the other way, why not just wear a skirt. Every time I shop for a tennis or golf skirt they only have skorts.
