New to the area, what’s the formula? I watched her IG stories. The dean says they look at the classes from all the years and GPA across the entire transcript. She is also not a fan of SAT scores. So it sounds like highest classes each year possible and GPA every semester will tell them how you will do at UVA?
But something tells me that’s not the actual formula?

+1 some schools have a 60%+ deferral rate and then admit 2-3 percent of them. What is the point of that?

I don't understand all these colleges deferring so many kids just to reject them in the end. Totally unnecessary.Kids are sending 10-20 applications so the T50 are getting record numbers. UVA received just under 51K applications, NYU 100K. This is new territory and we're going to see schools use wait lists until their algorithms catch up. They can't admit more students without lowering their yield. It's a delicate balance and wait lists give them an important cushion. It stinks for students who genuinely want to attend a specific school and couldn't ED, especially as wait lists won't likely move until after May 1.

+2, half of my first year's dorm hall are out of state.
We are in state but I echo this. My first year DD Has friends from Boston to California and everywhere in between. Very diverse group too!
