I’m not snobbish. I already have like four stores in rotation and don’t have the patience for ALDIs limited selection. We also don’t drink milk or eat cheese so it really isn’t helpful. Their gluten-free products are horrible.

Meaning - I agree that some people are snobbish about aldis.

The selection is not the same as other stores. It's kind of like you just have to see what's there and if you can make a meal out of it.

Everything is cheaper than Whole Foods. If you're looking to save money on groceries your first step is to get out of Whole Foods.

In my limited experience, Aldi's has some things that are 15-20% cheaper than Giant or Safeway if there's no sale, and in line with those stores if there is a sale. If you find the quality to be equivalent or better, there is a savings there. I did not find the produce quality to be even decent, and I didn't have a guide to show me what cheeses or dairy everyone is talking about, or whatever the amazing bread is. I would go again with an Aldi aficionado because I love a deal, but when I have tried to go on my own I've mostly been frustrated.

Fruit/veg is often half or 1/3 of the price of WF. Similar with cheese and dairy. (Organic is a bit more $$$ and less of a discount %) packaged goods like pasta and frozen food is usually around a 25%-50% discount.

I don’t buy much meat at Aldi, so can’t compare. Junk food is 1/3 of the price of WF. Some Aldi products are imported from Europe (often Germany, but also Poland, etc) so read labels if this is important to you.

The other thing to keep in mind is that some Aldi’s are more expensive/cheap than others. I visit two regularly and there is a small but noticeable difference. I’ve heard that they price by the average income in the zip code.

Exactly how cheap is Aldi's? Any good examples of price comparisons with, say, Whole Foods?

Aldi GF multigrain bread is by far favorite of all the GF breads I’ve tried in the last 10 years. I like their GF pasta too. I don’t eat a lot of processed food so not sure about their other GF items.

I find the Aldi selection is pretty fantastic. I love it that there are 2 kinds of peanut butter, for example - organic/no sugar, and regular with sugar. I get the organic and I’m done. Who needs 20 kinds of PB to choose from? They don’t have a great selection of spices, just the basics, so we do sometimes have to get those at Giant. But for the most part, Aldi selection is exactly what we need.

I find their produce to be on par with every other grocery store in terms of quality, and much less expensive. Except sweet potatoes. For some reason sweet potatoes at our Aldi are always crap. We also stopped buying steak there because it’s just not very good, but the organic ground beef is, especially for the price. The organic chicken is the same as the regular grocery store, not as good as what we get from the butcher at the farmers market (but the grocery store is not that good either).

We’ve never been able to do 100% Of our shopping at Aldi, but I don’t think most people do all their shopping in one place. It is really a great store.

NP: I do something similar. I buy most of my groceries at Aldi and then head to a specialty store for things like fresh herbs, spices, marinated tofu, or challah. I never feel bad splurging o the extra items because I save so much at Aldi.

I shop a both Aldi and Costco. Aldi is significantly cheaper. Quality may be higher on some items at Costco.
