I think really quickly the peer pressure will be to stop wearing masks. I am having my kid practice "My mom is making me wear a mask so I don't test positive before spring break" for when kids ask him why he's still wearing one. I do think a lot of parents feel that way so hopefully it'll be a non-issue.

FWIW, spring break travel truly is the only reason he's still wearing a mask. We're going on a cruise that has been rescheduled 4 times since March 2020. We are all so ready for that trip. If I wasn't worried about testing at the port, I wouldn't really give a flying f about the mask. I'm quite liberal but we're all vaccinated and I'm not worried about getting seriously ill at this point. I was hoping the policy updates would come after spring break but c'est la vie.


Everyone I've talked to has had this sentiment - masks until spring break, and then we're done.

The sad thing is that kids are keeping masks on for reasons that have nothing to do with Covid -- feeling they can "hide" behind the mask.

DC didn't wear a mask, high school, and about 15% weren't wearing masks. I think unmasking will increase over the next few weeks. Kids are waiting for other kids to not wear them first.

I am very liberal, my kids remain masked for reasons described in my post above, but I would not judge you. Your friends are not your friends if they would judge you for this.

I think that at this point, no one is assuming a kid who does not wear a mask is making any sort of political statement. The CDC has given us guidelines. We are all following the science - masking is optional because we are in a region with low rates. We've asked my kids to stay in masks until spring break because (a) we don't want to want to get sick with anything before we travel and (b) we are visiting elderly relatives and don't want to get them sick - again with anything.

One of my kids says since they see each other unmasked at recess but have been masked all year either way feels normal. Sounded drama free today.

PP again - DS just got home and said most kids were wearing masks but I did get the impression he took more mask breaks than he had been.

My kids’ classes

Primary: 3 out of a small class
Another primary grade: about 1/3
Upper ES: 2 in a big class

Was told by a staff member it was wildly varied, from 2”1 in a class to up to half.

My 2 ES kids reported their teachers were not masked but all students in their classes were save one or two. One of mine unmasked and the other stayed masked.
