f that! i am not paying a tip while getting no service. they can have food runners and pay them minimum wage. cold food. nope. nobody refilling my drink? nope.

i wouldn't mind ordering from an app, but i don't really want to look at the menu on my phone.

the fancy restaurant guy who clapped back when people didn't like it ... ought not to be in the hospitality industry.

I don’t mind the ordering and menus online but hate the payment step ifs a place you don’t frequent. Have to create an account or enter CC info which is a pain, esp if cash is not acceptable

Hackers got ahold of my bank information when I paid with a QR Code last year. Luckily my bank caught it right away. The fraud department at the bank said it’s on the rise.

So I don’t use QR codes for payment anymore

My biggest issue is I do not want to view and order on my cell phone. At least provide a tablet or kiosk so it is easier to read.

And, I would assume zero tipping is expected (and they pay their staff decently). At that point it’s basically McDonalds type service.

We went to some good restaurants last year and had to pay while making the reservation. It was fine because I was at home, on my computer. And the services turned out to be very attentive.

Using QR code and having to create an account right there in the restaurant is a bit much. Maybe they just could not find enough servers anymore.

I wouldn’t flip out about it, but it does seem like an unnecessary throwback to 2020, when we thought COVID transmitted via surfaces (which in actuality, having been tested multiple times, it is exceedingly, exceedingly rare) like menus. And yes, trying to read a large menu on a tiny phone is a pain.

I am a big proponent of tipping servers 20%+, but the level of service you received (or didn’t) doesn’t seem like it was worth that — basically the equivalent of takeout.

I patronize The Roost more than any other place specifically because they have this system for all the restaurants in the building.

No inane small talk, no waiting to try to flag down a server, just put your order in and get it a few minutes later. Paying ahead of time is the best because you don't have to do the stupid dance of asking for the check, waiting for them to come back and take your card, then waiting again to sign the receipt.

I hope every restaurant switches to this system.

what if you need a refill or extra napkins or to tell them your food isn't hot? Press a button on the screen?

If I need a refill I order another drink. Napkins are on the table, if they were out I'd grab some from another table. If my food isn't hot I'd do absolutely nothing because I'm not the kind of Karen that complains to the manager about tiny inconveniences.

What? Hot food served cold is a crime, not edible.

most of the servers still take your order, but yea, next up... no need for servers. Just order online at the table.

Actually, some places have that ability already.
That’s the kind of app OP is talking about — you order from your phone. Restaurants don’t need nearly as many servers with that model.

I think the conflict is that you tip first. That's not good at all.

+1 What if someone doesn't have a working phone with them? I had to share the tiny phone screen menu with someone.

And the font is tiny, and some of the pages suck. And not everyone has unlimited data.

I'm not rude like her, but it is harder to use my phone to look at a big menu. There's so much to scroll through and often they have it divided at the top into different categories.

I doubt I'd tip 20% on a place where they don't even come to check on me or refill my drink.

This. It is more difficult and, frankly, completely annoying. I will not do it; I just look at the server and say that I need a menu. Only once has a server refused. We left without ordering. The server seemed nonplussed and that was fine with me.

I love it. Next they can just get robots to bring stuff to the table too. More efficient and easier.

HATE it. I am basically doing all the labor for free, and hate having to use my phone. I am going to stop going to restaurants that use this. There's no reason for it these days, except to avoid paying for the wait staff.
