Will you be driving or by metro to DC?
1.1-1.5, driving most likely but having a metro option is definitely enticing.

There are, like, 6 houses in McLean that meet OPs price range. Even empty lots are going for $1.6m in parts of McLean right now.
We have been looking for a year now, our 4th offer was rejected yesterday, it was for 2.1 m. We are not looking for a McMansion, not too big. Around 4000 sqf yet not too dated. THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE. (We are looking Mclean and Great Falls due to our commutes)
That's because of a$$h@le builders. These two are/were teardowns:

It's been sitting empty waiting for someone to buy the $5.5m house they want to put there instead.
Or this one: https://www.redfin.com/VA/McLean/7009-Holyrood-Dr-22101/home/9274179
Which they already tore down and there's a spectacularly big and ugly new build in its place. That's why you can't find anything in McLean, and why you're outbid. It sucks.

Anonymous wrote:I'm confused by this post. Isn't great falls way more expensive than much of DC?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:OP did you consider Arlington (better commute) or are you set on a SFH?
DP. North Arlington is more expensive than McLean and more competitive so I doubt they could get a sfh there. And the housing stock in Arlington is worse too.

Was this intended to support OP’s assertion of being priced out of McLean? Because six houses, currently on the market, in your price range, in February… does not sound priced out. It sounds like you want a nicer house or a bigger lot than you can afford in McLean. But without that information, it’s hard to tell you where to look.

Anonymous wrote:Personally, Vienna. There is a real neighborhood feel, the schools are good, shopping and restaurants are easy to access, and depending on where you live, walkable. Metro is also closer.
