He is not liked as a person. Viscerally.

Are you in your twenties or early thirties by chance? My family was watching the latest episode last night (recorded because we're old.) The kids are teenagers and seem to enjoy watching it. It kind of came up, for my wife and I, how we watched the show in our teens, then went through a period in our twenties and early thirties where we didn't watch anymore. Then we picked up the habit again. It could have been the cast and the quality during those years, but I think it had as much to do with the time in your life. College and early adulthood, you're mostly out having fun during the times when you might be watching SNL. Then when you have little kids, there's no real time. I don't know how common it is to pick the habit back up later like my wife & I did.

His delivery is fantastic. That Monkey Judge skit almost certainly wouldn't have worked well with a different host.
