Why was there no communication of a serious violent act on a MCPS school campus between Tuesday and Friday?
Was the accused student in class after Tuesday? What is being done to protect female students from this violent individual?
I also thought police officers were back into high schools after the Magruder shooting. Was that only for a week? 90 minutes to respond for a rape is terrible.
All good questions.
And why is MCPS not keeping our kids safe in school buildings?
If sexual assaults are occurring in the basement bathroom (2 supposedly in one week) or other violent crimes such as the Magruder shooting, there are steps all MCPS schools can take to improve school safety:
1) For Springbrook, if a particular bathroom is prone for problems because of its location in the basement, close that bathroom
2) have a staff member/security assigned to monitor bathrooms including using cameras to watch for who is entering the bathrooms
3) take off hallway doors to the bathroom (other MCPS high schools have done this for drug use in bathrooms)
4) limit bathroom use to one student at a time - students wait in hallway if bathroom is occupied
5) get violent students out of school buildings by placing them in the Virtual Academy
MCPS is supposed to be reviewing school safety. It seems that if violent crimes in school buildings are happening primarily in bathrooms then additional security for these locations is needed.
You do realize some of the above would only y happen after an incident occurred not before. Some would make it so kids never got to class on time. Kids don’t walk around with signs on their forehead saying I’m violent or potentially violent. And where is this additional funds and staff to monitor bathrooms and Locke rooms 24/7, not to mention that a review of policy and procedures does not result in immediate install of cameras or changes to all staff schedules in all MCPS high schools.

If a regular patrol officer responded in a timely way, there wouldn’t be an opportunity to stoke the SRO flames again. You really think cops give a damn if an assaulted kid has to wait if the wait means they can make a point to stick it to Will Jawando?

That seems like an MCPD problem rather than an MCPS problem.
Its both. They should have called the parents and had the girl transported to a hospital with a staff member.

We don't know what the sexual assault was. Grabbing someone by the p*ssy is sexual assault, but isn't a medical emergency.

This is tiresome. Rest assured MCPD will still do their jobs because we have a very good police force. Yes, many are tired of Jawando’s unnecessary attacks on their honor and professionalism. That doesn’t change the fact they’ll do their jobs. Yes, the police care. If you don’t believe that, perhaps it’s time for you to do a ride-along or enroll in the citizen’s academy. Then you can meet some actual officers instead of listening to whatever social media decides to spew.
Do you understand a girl was assaulted (or raped) at a high school? Do you understand police did not do their job as this was covered up? Do you understand that the police aren't there within 5 minutes because MCPS didn't report it? MCPD cannot do their job if they don't have staff in the schools who work outside of MCPS to do what is best for our kids. Imagine the horror of those parents? Everyone here screams mental health issues. Now this is truly a mental health issue as this child will have long term issues because she was attacked at school and no one, NO ONE protected her. So, when you are screaming mental health and no SRO's because your Larlina cannot be at home with you as your homelife sucks, think of what has been done to this child.
You obviously didn't read the article. MCPS called 911 and MCPD didn't get there until 90 minutes later.

They should be placed in Twain.. ahh, but MCPS shut down Twain to great fanfare years ago. The new strategy is to transfer the problem student to another HS. The ringleader in the Damascus HS locker room gang sexual assault was on his third HS by that point.

This is typical for MCPS. Cover up and hope it doesn't hit the press. Kudos to the reporter for breaking this story.
Remember the Rockville HS alleged gang rape case a few years ago? The public only learned about it because MCPD (police) issued a press release about it. MCPS was silent about it, even to parents at that HS. If your child was at Rockville, wouldn't you want to know a gang rape may have taken place there earlier that week?
This is one of the reasons we moved to private last year.
