He put the U.S. on notice, do not come to my neighborhood.
And tbh, NATO and the U.S. need to be put on notice.
Sadly, Russian soldiers and people and Ukrainian people will pay for this with their lives, with poverty, etc.
This is a political game, and it is telling the world, Russia had enough of your BS, the West.
The west’s BS? Putin actively works to undermine democracies, he is a ruthless dictator who has assassinated and attempted to assassinate his opposition, has stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from his country, and has ruthlessly oppressed the press and ethnic and racial minorities. Ukraine is a FREE country and a sovereign nation. They are entitled to make ANY alliance they choose. They are not part of Russia. Putin is not entitled to “put them on notice” militarily. This won’t stop with Ukraine, because it’s not only about Ukraine. It’s about Putin wanting to restablish the power of the USSR.
This is not a political game. It’s a dangerous start to what could be a world war.
What democracies? You mean techno feudalism that pretends to be a democracy and has fooled the people they live in a democracy?
There is only one difference between the regular people of Russia and your democracy. Russians know exactly how much "freedom" they have or don't have.
I seriously hope you’re a troll. Please go live in a country run by a dictator for a few months and report back on how you like our freedom.

And yes, he is crazy. Between the grotesque security council meeting and his declaration of war, it's quite obvious.

I don't remember where I read this, it was a while ago, but it was an article about how Putin lives in a cage of his own making. He couldn't step down without being assassinated, and he had (literally) poisoned so many people on his way to the top that now he is paranoid about being poisoned himself.
So if you live isolated in fear of betrayal, constantly suspecting that your own countrymen are out to get you, and that isolation & paranoia continues for years, I think it would mess you up.
He's a little like a mob boss or a shark in that can't stop swimming or he'll die. He can't retire. He's stuck. He doesn't really want the job. But he can't let go of power and go quietly into the night. Maybe this is swan song. I really hope I'm wrong.

If you look back at his illustrious career from bombing residential buildings across Russia, the Chechen war, all the meddling in Europe, wars in Georgia & Ukraine, and lending a hand in other conflicts, he's neither crazy nor senile. He's continuing with his modus operandi but is being more arrogant about it from all the wealth he amassed and his "success". He feels he can whatever. Is that madness? May be. But the modus operandi is the same it's been the past 30 years.
This. I'm sure it's comforting to some to think he's just a crazy dude but that's not the case. This is his M.O. and just one of many steps to his end game.

I wish President Biden was channeling FDR but I suspect he is just channeling the Golden Girls.
