For what it's worth, I think children generally wet the bed more in the colder months than when it warms up. Also boys are more prone to have accidents at night than girls. Don't stress about it OP.

My son had nighttime accidents until deep into six. My MIL said my husband did the same, and my SIL said her kids did as well. Talk to your pediatrician of course, but some kids just take a really long time to get their nighttime queues.

In the meantime, as everyone else has said, absolutely switch him to pull ups and have him change his own at night. Five is old enough to take on that responsibility.

My middle child (DD) is 6 and is still in diapers/pull-ups (same thing). Her (almost) 3 year old brother is fully potty trained and her older sister stopped wearing night diapers at 3.5.

She is just different and needs more time. Pediatrician is not concerned at all and thinks her deep sleep is more beneficial to her than dropping the diapers.

DD is 5, she has been day potty trained since 2.5. She still wears a night time pull up bc she too sleeps deeply through peeing. We’ve tried just eliminating the pull-up and limiting liquids after dinner and all that ends up happening is she pees a little less but all over her sheets instead of the pull-up. Every time I ask her ped about it they always say normal and don’t need to do anything yet. So we went back to the pull-up. She may be totally dry twice per week I’m which case she’s super proud of herself. She never asks us to change her though. She gets up in the morning and changes out of the pull-up and into her underwear herself. That’s the part I’d focus on OP, your son is capable of that.

While you continue to work on this such as limiting liquids before bedtime, add in sposie diaper inserts to keep him from peeing out of the diaper.

+1 = both my kids were between 6-7 yo. One day, each just stopped wetting and didn't need the pullups anymore. You need to find better pullups and teach DS to change his own in the bathroom if he wakes up. Also limit liquids before bedtime.
