Tell me about it! It’s the only other neighborhood we seriously considered but my spouse wanted to stay in Arlington for a better commute. There are a lot of things I don’t love about Arlington, but the planes would have driven me nuts. Especially being trapped in our house during Covid all day.

It’s buyer beware with Palisades today (vs. how we remember it). There is nothing on the market and yet several new construction (ridiculously overpriced by almost a full million) houses have been sitting and sitting. And that’s right on the money

The planes to DCA fly straight down the Potomac and as you near the Palisades they are so low that it’s loud. It really seems to bother a lot of people who live there. I’m told it’s like living on a runway these days. Which is a shame, I love that neighborhood and would have bought a house there if it had worked well for our commute.

Why would anyone moving to DC now that traffic is as bad as LA move outside of DC when both parents live in DC?
Also some new home buyers in Arlington only just dug themselves out from 2008 purchases. Traffic is worse, planes are worse, VA is Republican. Who would want to deal with that?

Ditto for sketchy crime stat neighborhoods. Avoid planes, trains, automobiles, crime buy in NW WOTP minus Palisades

I am Asian American from NYC and was a total city girl before moving down to the DMV. I don’t know how important it is to be near other Asians and mixed Asian families. We like to go out for hot pot, Korean bbq and pho. I also shop at HMart as well as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, etc. I really like living in close suburbs with top public schools.

I didn’t really care about this when I was single but I like that my kids have different friends including friends who are similar to them.

I agree with the poster who said Georgetown is bland. I lived there for 12 years and wish I’d moved to Mount Pleasant much sooner than we did. Much more family-friendly ( and the zoo!)

I disagree. We’ve lived on Capitol Hill for 20 years. Our kids have attended schools here and they love it. Even though they love to visit friends in other DC neighborhoods they say they would never want to grow up anywhere else. I recommend the Eastern Market or South Capitol metro stop areas as they are closest to where you guys work. Good elementary school there also. I’d at least look at Capitol Hill. I think you’ll regret it if you don’t.

Agree with Cleveland Park and AU Park if you may want to send your kids to inbound public school within walking distance of your home.

Some of the other neighborhoods mentioned have less of a neighborhood feel because so many of the kids are in private.
