Ugh it's the "I know everyone hates writing so that's why we have 4 short essays" guy.

No, not everyone hates writing, and some people think that colleges should aspire to greatness rather than mediocrity.

Can you say more about this? Assuming they are kept updated, our kid's school scattergram seems pretty clear re VT

here is our FCPS Scattergram from 2021 for Tech. all over the place in my mind.

here's the UVA for comparison. Much more clearcut. (assuming the low SATs that got in were test optional from the covid year)

thats what ours looked like as well. Is this just 2021 though? I know ours incorporated about ten years.

This is because the new President is pushing first-generation. Frankly, I don’t think the only polytechnic public institution in the Commonwealth wealth should be doing that -leave that to the privates to social engineer -but that’s what is going on.

State U should be accessible to all state residents.

There are not enough seats, Karen!

Shouldn't a state U reflect its state population demographics in its admissions at least a little bit?

How is pp being a Karen. PP said state schools should be accessible to all state residents, meaning all SES, etc., including first-gen students. That's definitely not being a Karen. PP obviously did not mean that there should be enough seats for every single person who applies

Last year’s EA acceptance rate was almost 77%. Feeling positive!

Of course, public universities in themselves are a sort of social engineering. Make education more widely available to the population in the hopes that it improves society as a result.

As for those VT scattergrams, they are obviously pulling some particular levers to build their class. But they also have different schools within the university that have different admissions profiles. Kids who were rejected from the college of engineering might have similar (or better) stats compared to a student accepted to the college of arts and sciences. VT also tends to fill most of their class, particularly in engineering, through EA, so kids who might have been accepted EA were rejected RD. All of that can make for noisy Naviance data compared to a school that is more standardized across the board (I don't know if UVA fits that profile or not).

Stats?

3.9W, 3.7UW, test optional. Applied undecided Liberal Arts.

No, I'm still not over it.

Is your kid happy where they are? I mean that sincerely, not as some sort of covert "Get over it!" -- my kid got WLed, and I was miffed on their behalf, but it turned out that was just me.

PP here. Yes, they're happy where they are . I was being a little tongue in cheek. But I really do want to see how Tech handles admissions this year,

Another parent whose kid had similar stats that was waitlisted as well (for CS). Tech was one of their safeties and was a bit annoyed that they were waitlisted. Very happy where they are as well.

I'd advice high stats kids to apply ED if at all possible.

VT is not a safety for CS with those stats. Glad your kid is happy.
