This is a weird East Coast hangup -- you guys are weird about cars. I'm from out West and Subarus are just practical cars. I am not particularly outdoorsy but drove one for years because of the all wheel drive -- I may not be out hiking every weekend, but I did have to drive in the snow regularly and that's handy. I'd never even heard the thing about lesbians and Subarus until I moved to DC for grad school and I mentioned to a boyfriend that I was planning on buying a Subaru for my next car and he was like "whaaaaaat?" Good lord, there's no such thing as an LGBTQ+ car.

Anyway, a car is just a way to get from one place to the next. It truly does not matter. It is not a reflection of your personality or inner belief system. Most of the cars I've owned have been used and I've simply bought the best car in the best condition for the price I want to pay. You need to stop thinking of car industry advertising as meaningful.

You drive a minivan and are worried about your image if you buy a Subaru?

Definitely used to think it was a lesbian car 15 years ago. Own an ascent now as 40 yo suburban mom. Other moms in the neighborhood have it.

Also, did you seriously say "not that there's anything wrong with that"?? WTF????

Agree. I mean... really, OP. You think you will drive around town in your Subaru and people will (1) care and (2) assume you are a kayaking lesbian?

A kayaking lesbian lmao. Makes my day

I feel compelled to post this: it details the ad campaigns 20 years ago that led to Subaru stereotypes.

I think that’s just an old stereotype. Subarus are middle-class family cars. Some carmakers have abandoned that segment of the market and Subaru is doing well. We actually have an Outback on order and my sister drives a Crosstrek. My father is probably rolling in his grave at the thought of his daughters owning Japanese cars, but times have changed.

Best Safety features. Best price/value. I think it appeals to people who buy cars that offer the best value/features/comfort.

OP, you seem to be grappling with a very old stereotype. You may want to grow up a bit.

I honestly didn't know this stereotype existed. We are millennials with 2 young kings and we spend our weekends skiing, hiking and biking, but during the weekdays I have to commute to work. Subaru is an obvious fit. Mine has heated leather seats and a heated stereo and it feels just as luxurious as the Lexus it replaced.
