Washington and Lee is pretty much Davidson sans D1 athletics. W&L is a slightly higher ranked SLAC ( USNWR) but is a little less competitive in admissions versus Davidson. If the OP's DC is strong enough to be recruited at the D3 level, W&L might be worth a look.

In what way is W&L less competitive for admissions than Davidson?

Agree. My husband and I are Davidson alums and our child currently attends Rhodes. Their experience at Rhodes mirrors so many of the positive aspects of Davidson: intellectually curious and collaborative students, extensive interaction with professors, research opportunities, beautiful campus, a friendly, supportive feel to the school, easy-going social scene. For us it was a great bonus that Rhodes offers generous merit aid. Internships and research are encouraged; our child has interned at St Jude and will soon begin a sports marketing internship working closely with the professional basketball team. D3 sports (though our child is not involved so can't comment on that aspect). It reminds us a lot of Davidson

And mind you, that 14% rate includes the Division I athletic recruits. If you net out those admits, it’s more than a 10-11% admit rate.

Maybe, but Lexington is hardly suburban Charlotte.

ED rate is much higher than regular rate but this is complicated as the majority of the D1 recruited athletes come in through ED. If you are not a recruited athlete, ED is not as promising as it appears.

A lot has changed in college admissions over the last 15-20 years and there's been a tsunami in the last two years. Davidson's 2021 admit rate was 19%. They are tied for #13 on USNWR and higher if you set aside West Point and the Naval Academy.

DC really liked the campus and what we were able to see on a walkabout in the COVID no tours time. Charmed by the little village right on the edge of the school. Ultimately did not apply as DC looking for a school with no Greek life.

ah Davidson, I really wish my kids had applied there. They both loved touring and had it at the top of their list, but being in VA, felt that UVA ED was the way to go as far as affordability. I would not say that W&M is very like Davidson, its really somewhat unique for what it is. Certainly I am sure there are alot of cross apps for those two for in state Virginians.

Wake seems much for southern and fratty, at least to my kids, though they are mentioned in the same class all the time.
