I had a daycare do this, except they didn't feed my 7 month old for a full day. I showed up and she had swollen red eyes and looked dehydrated and exhausted. All four full bottles were in the fridge. They said she wasn't hungry, but had no record of having tried to feed her and a policy of not returning warmed breastmilk bottles to the fridge. The director denied it. The workers had been floating between rooms and didn't have an answer.

I reported them and pulled her. The county did a surprise inspection and cited them for many violations. The other parents got mad at me for risking their access to childcare. The daycare retaliated by raising prices and cutting hours, citing a parent complaint as creating the need to hire more staff. It wasn't pretty.

I'm so sorry, OP. I'd be furious, and very concerned.

Out of curiosity, do you have the right nipple size on the bottle? That caused issues many years ago when I dropped off my now 12 yr old at a day care. Did they try to feed her and she didn't take it? A lot of questions you should ask them.

There could have been an extra/backup bottle around for some reason. Something sloppy happened, but I am not sure any child was at risk.

But it seems like trust is broken, so that alone means it’s time to change daycares.

You need to have a conversation as to why a full bottle was at home. Did they offer it and was it refused?

If it was an oversight, then that’s very bad. You need to go on record and speak with the Director or lead daycare provider.

You can't just forget a 6 month old, because they make noise when they are hungry. When you asked them what did they say?

My guess is that either they fed her someone else's bottle (Obviously also a problem) or she didn't finish a bottle and they offered it again.

How do you know the baby wasn't sleeping?

+1. Did OP actually talk to the daycare about why a bottle was sent home? I’m confused how she knows it was 5 hours without food. At six months my kid would be raising holy hell if he hadn’t been fed for 5 hours.

I don’t think she did.

All she knows is her baby came home with an extra bottle and she thinks they didn’t feed her on purpose or forgot. Instead of asking for an explanation she came here to complain. I would be very upset but I would also want to know the reason why the bottle was returned.

I bet they fed her the wrong bottle.

I would want an explanation and a very good response to how this will never, ever happen again.

Of course my children would be screaming bloody murder for a bottle because they were hungry little monsters as infants. But still, it's not acceptable.
