For cartoons, The Last Airbender rec is good, as is Kipo and the Wonderbeasts. Mine still likes silly shows like Inspector Gadget (not so awesome for parents) or classics like The Muppet Show (old and new, I think the older is better for parents). Fraggle Rock is also fun.
For real people, my 10-12 year old nieces love The Babysitters Club and The Worst Witch. My sons sometimes watch along and pretend they don't like those, but I'm pretty sure they do. Same with Full House and Fuller House.
No need to rush into adult programming.
My DS watches Babysitters Club, Big Shot, the new Doogie Howser. All have mostly female main characters. He wouldn’t turn them on himself but he enjoys them when my DD watches them. I am glad; it’s important for boys to not always see themselves at the center of stories.
