RIP Nextdoor. It used to be a decent place to get community updates, local recs, and yard sale virtually. Then it became a social/political soap box to complain about issues of the day. Then a ton of covid shaming. Now it's basically a hoarder house combined with chain letters, prayer circle requests, and bragging about you and your grandkids.

You must live in Alexandria. That's where I live and I have all 4 of those, also. Frankly, I am fine with the ones you listed.

The one that sent me into despair a week or two ago was the foul-mouthed waitress ranting about a customer, and then a bunch of people piling on with the validation. Like, what? No, you don't validate someone with such gross and unkind words and gestures.

I absolutely abhor the ones where someone is trying to "out" another person. Like the one in the dog park. There are two sides to every story and just reading that post made me doubt the veracity of the poster. There were too many details left out. I really wanted to know what her dog was doing if she had so much to say about these other people.

At one point I had probably half of my "neighbors" muted but I realized I was missing their posts and so was unable to keep up with how whacked out some of my neighbors really are. So now I just lurk. If they ever do an audit of people who are "members" but don't post, and decide to kick us out, I'll probably be the first to go. Good riddance to their bad rubbish as far as I am concerned if they do decide to kick me out.

Same. Our is mostly useful but there is a contingent of people being moderately alarmed about normal wildlife. "Omg, saw a deer grazing at dusk in so-and-so park. Wanted to alert neighbors as this could be VERY dangerous to drivers in the area!!!" "Saw a hawk flying by earlier today. Keep your small dogs/pets inside people." Posts picture of tiny garter snake, "Need recommendations for an exterminator A.S.A.P.!"

Also there's been an uptick in people treating it like their own personal Facebook page. "Just want to shout out my son. 3.4 GPA this semester #praiseGod #honorroll #mybabyboy" and weird inspirational quotes, etc.

i should not have laughed at this, but i did.

I was it and a woman posted a photo of a black man and asked, “Who is this!?” Others chimed in that he is a doctor and had moved in and was going around introducing himself while wearing his Harvard or Yale shirt or whatever meds school he attended. I figured he was introducing himself partly so the white people would not be freaked out but then there was the white person posting a photo of him from their doorbell camera. So yeah.

NextDoor causes me to dislike people.

OP, I saw the red pepper flakes/sub post, too. Not useful in the sense that I would prefer a list serv to be useful. I loved some of the "helpful hint for next time" replied, though (dab the sub with a slightly damp paper towel, blow off the flakes, etc.).
