I have a pug and her honking cough is a collapsing trachea. I had surgery for her brachycephalic airways to help relieve pressure from her trachea overworking. That won't apply to your dog, but I would absolutely at least call/email the vet about this because a collapsing trachea is serious and needs to be treated. Telltale sign is a honking cough.
