Negative. We dont plan on showing up to school at 730. We’ll keep our routine and show up at 750 or so. Principal has already been notified via email about it. Of course we got the whole truancy BS and CPS threat but we said we dont care. Simple.

Worked (ha!) very well for my kid’s college admissions last spring. The job gave him great fodder for essays. It was looked upon favorably by AOs, since not many teens work a part-time job year-round.
Working a part-time job is fine, but the priority for students under 18 is school, which is why the law limits how many hours teens can work (3 hours max on school days). This isn’t likely to have much impact in that respect. Again, the medical research is clear that teens naturally stay up late and rise later. Younger kids go to bed much earlier and can get up earlier with greater ease.

1. Most counties have 2 income households.
2. There are countless sleep studies out there about how this is the preferable way to do it. School districts are moving towards this, not away from it, Loudoun just happened to be on the earlier end of adopting.
3. Additionally there are studies about how HS kids get into less trouble when they don't have 4+ unsupervised hours after school.
4. Its been this way in Loudoun at least 15+ years, since before I moved here. Its not like it changed since you bought.
5. Its only 20 minutes.
But now pp is here, and she wants it changed! Because it's all about her and what's practical for HER family!

The new schedule is a six hour and 45 minute school day.

Just for your work convenience? What a load of entitlement. The kids waste enough time in school that they don't need to be there longer.

Oh, and we're not lengthening the school day by an hour just so you don't have to pay for aftercare. They are in school more than enough as is.

Why???? We wake up at 7 now. So we will wake up at 6:40 next year. NBD.
Bus currently picks my son up at 6:50. So, waking up at 7 isn’t exactly an option.
So drive him. New tardy bell isn’t until 7:30.
I’m so glad for you that you’re life is so easy! I guess I’ll get up at 4am so I can load up my other child wheelchair and all and deal with their morning seizures in time to not miss the tardy bell!! I’m a rarity in that I try not to act like an entitled jerk but this change is just asinine. Young kids should not have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get to school.
Young children also don't need an hour to get ready in the morning. Wake him up at 6am, which is a perfectly reasonable wakeup time for a grade schooler. Jesus, the whining.
The idea that 6 am is a reasonable wake up time for a grade schooler is laughable. And yes I know that someone will come on here to say their precious grade schooler naturally pops awake at 6, so happy for you.
Some high schoolers are actual adults, they need to learn to be able to function and get up early if needed. Jesus, the whining.
