Most of us don't. Twin beds till you are buying your own bed. Colleges, grad schools all have twin beds.
+1. Mattresses and sheets are expensive. They can buy their own bigger bed when they have a job.

My kids also stuffs her twin with all kinds of stuffed animals, but I am not buying her a bigger bed to encourage the habit. She'll either move them when she wants more space, or she sleep cramped up! Her choice.

We already have a twin with trundle which is being moved to her sibling’s room as the sibling is no longer in a crib. But we don’t want another twin - she has so many stuffed animals she sleeps with that are taking up too much space so we need something larger overall.
