Why isn’t there a swim team? Swim and Dive is one of those basic sports I thought every high school offered. Why have Howard County schools never offered it?
HoCo has very, very few public year 'round pools. No place even for year 'round swimmers - think there are 1-2 USA swim clubs and maybe 1 Y swim team in all of HoCo - most year 'round swimmers go to out of county. Can't have HS swimming if there aren't enough indoor pools.
Huh. I’m surprised.
Which leads to another question - why don’t their schools have pools?

This is very true. One of my cousins is in his 20s and was a swimmer like your child when he was young. He also ran track and biked and he does really well in the amateur triathletes. Everyone tells me those are really won in the swimming portion.

To add - the end game for me for my kids is that they develop sportsmanship, understand how to work hard and push themselves to improve to do their best, and to develop a lifelong love of exercise.

I swam, ran X county and track - I rarely placed in HS - but I made friends and had fun. I am in my 40s and I still run and swim laps regularly for fitness.

Can you slow swimmer make the team? My kid will go to high school in Arlington and I always assumed he would make the team.
Not in all schools. Some are very competitive and some take everyone.
