Yes, but apparently they didn't take into account if the electrical system could take the load... heaters draw a lot of current.

LOL right. Actually I managed to open in incognito mode. My kids school has open windows and, if possible, outdoor eating. I know my kids teachers and if it is bitter cold and uncomfortable the kids will eat inside. I'm not worried about this at all, and i think that their primary concern in taking extra measures is for the kids. Also the kids do not eat in the cafeteria but in the classroom.

Our school does every single day. I loved that they were doing it in early fall…but now that they are continuing to do it in these temps and with rain and snow I’m not such a fan.

Are you asking about the WaPo article? That was about the craziness of school closures and ineffective measures such as keeping masks on while eating.

Mine maybe does it one time a week, but one of his teachers "forgets" a lot. She is an awesome teacher otherwise so not going to make a big deal out of it. As a teacher I have no problem taking kids outside to eat, but my colleagues in another district dont even consider it, so it seems like not a fruitful fight for me.

I can't open this article. What is it saying is awful? Once the wave comes back down in a few weeks like in south Africa i think about 30/35 percent of kids will have gotten omicron. So if you are being careful your kid may not get it (within a year or two though surely everyone has gotten it or whatever next variant). Personally I just dont want the nightmare of successive isolations given i live in a family of five people. Ok, so it was DCPS who didn’t think it through. I hope they will follow up with the needed electrical upgrade so these funds weren’t wasted.
Are they providing heaters to all schools? I’m assuming they will to those who request them (and actually have the capacity to run them)?
Ours are still in boxes. They arrived late December if I remember correctly. No idea if we will be able to use them.

To be honest, now that my kids are vaccinated and not at risk of quarantines anymore, I wouldn't care that much if they ate inside. Everybody will get Omicron eventually, it's not a question of if but when. But I guess it's better to spread it out so the numbers don't give them reason to close schools.
The heaters were provided by DCPS. They agreed to provide heaters for all schools that host outdoor lunch. I do not know if other schools have received them yet.

DCPS provided the heaters. They were not paid for out of PTA funds.
Well, considering we're one of those families, I do get to have an opinion about it. Yes, yes, I know I should have been involved, and I have been appreciative of their efforts to make outdoor lunch happen (although I do think it is less crucial now that kids are vaccinated). But this seems like a Covid-anxiety driven impulse purchase.

Janney did not order the heaters. Nor did the PTA. DCPS did.
