I wish there were a way to know if my kid (early ES) will have a sub on Monday. I'd keep them home if I knew their teacher were out. I know not everyone would do that, but given Omicron it would be a factor for me.

We've been told all years that our elementary students need to bring their iPads home daily because they could switch to virtual at any moment.

Syphax isn’t a teaching facility. It’s the central office.

My guess is that the numbers are so high there because staff shared between schools show up as Syphax (like an ES specials teacher assigned to two schools).

Didn't we start off the school year alternating days between virtual and at home? I don't remember everyone going into the building at the same time last year. Did they? We are in middle school. I thought they planned for it over the summer and did what they planned.

How does that work without enough teachers? Kids sit in auditoriums/cafeterias?


Yes, that’s exactly how it’s going to work. Classes will be bunched together in the cafeteria, library, or gym, and one warm body will tell kids “look at Canvas.”

Picture 50-60 kids or more with one adult. And that adult may or may not be a teacher.

Hopefully, it won’t happen too often, but I’m expecting it for both of my APS students this month (MS/HS).

Were people charged leave on Thursday when APS closed for "snow" that was really too many people calling out? Or did they get a pass because the schools closed?

I’m a teacher. This is a silly thread. Of course we’re going on Monday. This past week was a blessing, really. I think we’ll be able to hang on now. I hope, anyway. I know so many people whose flights have been cancelled because the staff have CoVID. Why doesn’t anybody say that they don’t want to return in person? Y’all know we’re charged for leave when we’re out, right?

I don't think this is really going to happen. I don't think APS has laid the groundwork for it or is doing the preparations to make it happen. You couldn't just switch to virtual all of a sudden; like, I think the computer network needs to be set up for it, kids need to have wifi, all the other stuff that had to happen beforehand. Maybe I'm wrong.

They will say it's staffing issues. If they do it school by school, middle school is likely to be first. They have the highest rates of kids out and teachers out; combined.
