This is a very valid grievance! I'd also only give half the toys (unwrapped, of course) to the kids. The rest I'd hide in a closet for birthday presents or a day of bad weather when you're losing your mind.

Oh, man. So sorry. I'm a NYC native who was basically emotionally blackmailed into seeing family somewhere "safe" (ie exploding LI) and there are symptoms popping up everywhere and it just feels so awful. I always liked my SIL but have been noticing the more time I spend with her that she is very self-important when she talks job and for example, will explain things to others even though no one asked a question. Today, we were talking politics and I alluded to a politician getting all the money and support she needs for her campaign thanks to her husband and SIL turns to me and says oh you know who her husband is? He’s so and so, the [name of position] of [name of prganization]. Yeah no shit I knew that, why else would I have made the statement I just did? Anyway, I just moved back home and am realizing that I’m going to be getting a lot more of this know it all BS from her.

Much less petty complaint is my toddler is sick with flu-like symptoms and I’m praying it’s not covid or anything else serious.

My complaint -

I am alone with my kids and DH is traveling. I was looking forward to a family gathering with our vaccinated family members. My youngest gets sick last weekend and got tested for strep, flu and COVID (all negative) but still could spread his respiratory thing to the rest so we have to stay home by ourselves.

Then my mom asks about the Christmas cookies which I’m known for making. She asked if she could stop by and pick up the cookies to bring to the gathering. No mention of her bringing any of the food to us in exchange. Nope, just wanted the cookies.

Our school staff party is the first Friday we get back from break after everyone has sufficiently spread everything. Looking forward to it.
