I buy my Dad (and FIL) nicer versions of stuff they would never spend money on.

One year we bought my FIL REALLY nice work boots (he usually buys them at Wal-Mart). Another year we bought him a really nice parka-type jacket. I buy my Dad tracks suits - this year is Under Armour. I bought him a Marmot rain suit one year. Another year I bought him a nice sweater vest and button up shirt. He would never spend money on nicer clothes, so that is the stuff I tend to buy.
