DP, this is statistically untrue. You can’t run around saying “masks are fine” anymore because we have actual data, stupid. It is hurting them. There are tons of studies now showing cognitive and social delays due to masks, kids not learning what they need to in school because they can’t hear and don’t bother asking, and pretty importantly forcing six year olds to eat outside in 40 degree weather because they aren’t wearing masks is obvious harm. It is child abuse. Full stop.


Ha. My kids live in Maine and my 6 year old did an outdoor preschool program last year through the Maine winter so I think you’re barking up the wrong tree with that argument. And for the record absolutely adored the experience and is jealous of her siblings who is there now


“I live in Maine and sent my kids to an expensive outdoor wilderness experience” isn’t the rebuttal you think it is to kids in inner city Chicago who can’t afford new mittens or a coat without holes in them sitting outside for an hour at lunch regardless of the weather. That’s wild. Ours says you have to “try.” I mean, ok, I’ll try by carrying a child mask with me while my toddler yells NOOO at me.

Complete and total theatre. And I’m what many people here would consider pretty COVID conservative. But this is just absurd.

I actually had to change pediatricians because my newly turned 2 year old would not wear a mask and they wouldn't let him inside the office without one.

It's great that your kids can tolerate it but not all kids can, if a child is extremely uncomfortable with mask there is a point when it becomes abuse.

Really? Do you make your kid wear clothes on other parts of their bodies in public, or just let 'em run around naked? C'mon. I think Europe's mandate starting at 6 makes more sense than the US regulations that start at 2, sure, but calling masking 'child abuse' is ridiculously histrionic.

OP, I agree with others that you're not likely to run into issues on a plane if you really have trouble with your littlest one and masks. People generally understand and as long as you're not being a jerk to the flight attendants and all the older kids/adults are wearing masks, it's not going to be a problem. My DD turned 2 right before Covid hit (Feb 2020) and the way we got her to accept masks was by letting her help put mine and DH's on first, then we put on hers, and then made a big happy deal about how we were all wearing our masks and ready to go! It...sort of worked, and got easier over time. Good luck and safe travels when the time comes!

Clothes and mask are two very different things, Some people have a hard time with things covering their face as it can cause a placebo effect of suffocation i know this from personal experience.

Agree, masks on little kids is outrageous, especially at this point in the pandemic when everyone over 5 can be vaccinated. sorry you have to deal with this. my kid is one and I'm considering lying on the airline records once he turns two so we don't have to deal with this crap.

Honestly, it just took time. My DD doesn’t give a crap about choosing a favorite one or whatever. She wouldn’t do it until one night, bam, she just got it.
