They wouldn’t make him. It’s just a sales tactic. If they think you will buy a bag but not plates and scarves or whatever because you think you “have” to, they’ll just sell you a bag.
So... then what's the problem? Anyone can just walk in and buy a Birkin?

Omg you're too funny![]()
It's true though. I love the chase.
Do you shop in different stores in different cities to maximize the number of associates who are keeping an eye out for stuff on your wish list? Is that a thing? This is so out of my league, but now I am curious.
No sweet baby because there is not an actual shortage of Birkin bags. This is just a game.
I think I’m missing some key element — please help me understand this. If there’s no real shortage, and the goal isn’t actually to “just” get the bag you want. Is the game to “earn” the bag by embodying a Hermès ideal so they’ll offer it to you, thereby anointing you? (Zero snark here, I’m just fascinated.)

It could be worse. I’ve heard stories of well meaning husbands buying Birkins on the resale market only for the wife to find out the bag is a God factory special the first time it’s sent to spa and Hermes sends it to the incinerator instead. It’s a particularly unpleasant way to lose $20,000.
