Then she gradually morphed into a black or mixed facade and I was like WTF. Now this. K pop is the new wave, J pop hasn't quite gained as much traction, but either way she's just latching into a new identity. I don't understand how anyone thinks this is ok.
She’s an Italian-American from Florida lol

This was her natural look as a teen. I believe her ancestry is not just Italian, but Sicilian, which means her ancestors probably come from all over the Mediterranean world. Americans are really inconsistent about whether North Africans and Levantines are "white" or "brown" (it seems to change according to whatever point they're trying to make from one moment to another,) but she probably has ancestors from both those places as well as Europe.
Apparently her DNA test showed that she's "heavily Greek and part North African." She seems not to understand enough about Sicilian history to know those results actually encapsulate a whole lot of it: https://twitter.com/arianagrande/status/454407790602104832?lang=en
This is probably pretty normal for southern Italy and Sicily in particular.
Yeah. I mean it's like Spanish people have Moor heritage but theyre almost all white (or considered white). It's outrageous how she's repeatedly tried to shift her features to correspond to whatever is big in music at the time, be it trying to look latina or even black and now apparently asian with the rise of kpop.
She needs to get some therapy or something and stay away from the plastic surgeon's office before she looks like MJ.
a) At least most of what you're discussing is make-up and costuming
b) My point was that "white" and "brown" don't stand up to scrutiny
