The majority are coming to live with family.
Give me a break. Everyone knows what s farcical loophole they're exploiting. What political persecution are they fleeing. More specifically, please explain how one can seek asylum from their country of origin after passing over multiple countries even prior to the getting into the US? We all know they're economic migrants fleeing for economic opportunity. Under no world laws are countries required to let in immigrants who are seeking better economic opportunities. If they want better economic opportunities they can get in line like everyone else at UCIS.
So you don’t understand the law. They are coming to stay with family mostly from countries that had natural disasters, 20% come with a parents death certificate. The majority are coming to stay with family.
You like your cheap pedicure, fresh vegetables picked by immigrants, clean house and Peruvian food though. Looks like our next restaurants will be Guatemalan , can wait.
None of what you described above are flights from political persecution.

It’s to make them selves and voters feel good about something but not really considering the ramifications and or considering the effects it has on the existing population.
I am not against asylum or taking people in but rather having well-thought-out limits and having a set plan rather than unlimited immigration.

Meanwhile 0% of American children in Baltimore have no proficiency in basic math, live in squalor, and didn't even have heating in their schools. Yes, I'm oh so glad we continue to take in thkusands and millions of citizens from other countries while our own citizens suffer. Imagine how bad our own child citizens lives are in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, etc. There are American kids who grow up everyday without running water, food, or stable housing. Sorry for not caring about other countries' citizens at the moment.

I do have sympathy for these unaccompanied minors but we as a country can’t just keep giving and spending money on immigrants that don’t pay into the tax system. There are kids in terrible situations. We need money to provide more mental health services, supports, remediation in school, free vocational training, free community college, etc. to try to help our own citizens.
So let their parents come. Their parents will pay a higher proportionate share in taxes than most billionaires and will solve the problem we currently have of filling low skilled jobs.
They can come. They've always been allowed to come. Legally. Just like the millions of other immigrants have done by waiting in line with the UCIS. Just like my dad. Just like my wife. No one gets to cut the line just because they feel like it. We are an autonomous country with borders. We have the right like every other country on Earth to regulate immigration. Why democrats can't stand that fact is mind blowing.

MCPS has 162,680 students. 1,200 unaccompanied minors is less than 1%. If there are no more seats it is hardly the fault of these kids.
Except thaat's in less than one year with no end in sight.. Multiply the problem by 10 years. Illegal immigration has been going on for decades in MoCo and it is already straining the county's resources. That's 1,200 more seats taxpayers have to pay for to educate foreign nationals from another country. Every dollar spent on another country's child is a dollar not spent on our own children.
Then maybe we should fix the immigration and refugee problem that leads to the children being unaccompanied so that their tax-paying, labor-providing parents come along, too. Seems like a win-win. In addition to not being terrible.
How many parents do you think we should take in? An unlimited number from around the world? Or, perhaps we should have some limits?
Oh, wait! We do have limits. Which is why the US, and every other country in the world, has immigration rules. Unfortunately, some counties and cities have decided to flaunt those rules to protect undocumented immigrants by becoming sanctuary cities/counties.
I always get poo-poo’ed for this comment, but I worked for Montgomery county for 10+ years and they have so many free/super low cost ($10 per visit) health programs for “undocumented” women and children. It is unbelievably easy to register and qualify for these programs.

Adding- these immigrant kids get put into already over crowded schools facing massive issues of their own. These kids aren’t going into Potomac schools. They’re getting funneled into Harmony Hills, And other title 1 schools.
