I grew up just outside Philly. I know of multiple people who were mugged or had their apartments broken into at Temple. I had a full ride for undergrad to Temple (early 2000s) and a scholarship for law school and I turned them down both times. Temple is a great school in a bad spot and it's getting worse.

Show me one example of someone robbing a kid for AirPods. AirPods are pretty worthless without the charger. Not to mention I doubt there is a second hand market for nasty used earpods with ear wax all over them.

That said, AirPods are a visual signal the person likely has more expensive items in their possession.

My kid is a sophmore living off campus (not at Temple) and has to briefly walk through an iffy area. He was home for Thanksgiving and I asked him if he's ever run into problems. He said once two older women (not college students, he thought they were at least mid 30's) approached him and asked if he had any chewing tobacco, but that's it. When he told them he didn't they left him alone (thankfully.)
I didn't think to talk about what he should do if they didn't just go away peacefully...I will definitely bring that up.
