I'm FINALLY hitting 240 the first pay period of 2022, after many years of taking just a week in the summer, the day after Thanksgiving, and a week at Christmas off all year. Should I try to keep it near the cap? Why? If I ever leave the feds, that's a lot of time I'll never get back.
Because there is no employer provided short term disability insurance for Feds. I have seen so many long term fed colleagues wipe through hundreds of hours of accrued leave due to illness of themselves or a loved one.

I get 5 vacation days per year and 2 sick days.
Get a new job. You deserve it! Your employer sucks, btw
