Weighted 3.7 at Tufts would be under their 50% mark. Would be interested to know what hooks your kid had!

Their CDS doesn't even list GPA ranges, so how would you know that?

Tufts has no shortage of full pay students. A 3.7 kid who got in had to really stand out in some way.

Um… in what world is a 3.7 “mediocre”? Get a grip.

Well 3.7W would be like 3.1UW….. so technically, the OPs DC is not stellar by any measure. Clemson Elon would be good choices for a B student.

I don't understand this math. If your kid only took 2 classes that were IB or AP or whatever, and they get As in those, that means they get 5 grade points right? Even with those, that isn't enough to take a GPA from 3.1 to 3.7 right? This is a legit question. I don't understand.

Every school does this a little different.

I think it just means they can pay out of state tuition or private school, not that they’re buying their way in somewhere.

There is that, but the reality is full pay is easier to get in some places.

DS got in with a weighted 3.7 and a 1260 SAT

Any merit aid? DD similar stats and we don’t qualify for need based but Syracuse just too much $$$$ for us.

no merit aid

This year or a previous year?

Maybe off of a waitlist in 2020.

Lot of full pay kids with much higher stats get deferred or rejected. Has to be some other hook, or just a great essay.

Oh, so jealous. My 3.9, 1500 SAT kid was rejected ED. He ended up BU Honors which is fine but he loved Tufts and was pretty depressed after getting rejected. He was thinking about trying to transfer but now he has some good friends and I don’t think he feels like starting over again.

I’m assuming the 3.7 acceptance was from private school. No way would a kid with weighted 3.7 from mcps get in unless recruited athlete or urm
