OP I was in your boat. My daughter got a nasty, nasty virus right after we all had our covid tests and were heading to grandmas. Not exposing my nieces and nephews so they have to miss school/their parents have to miss work to go be covid tested AND be miserable, so we did an outdoor wave and then ate pie at our hotel watching cheesy movies.

Honestly it gave me a minute to reflect on being thankful for the health of my family— AND wear PJs. I’m still a bit sad.

My parents were okay meeting outside so we went for a walk Wednesday and I had a quiet Thanksgiving at home. Kid is over her cold and will be back at daycare next week. And for all of you fighting about Covid precautions — I wasn’t joining the family because a coughing, sniffling, cranky toddler would have improved zero people’s holiday celebration, to say nothing of taking the virus home with them, no matter what it is. (Should be noted — my folks are immigrants, so our attachment to thanksgiving as an actual holiday is pretty limited. I would be much more upset if this happened at Christmas which is our big deal family traditions time. YMMV.)

Yeah, how silly to avoid cold germs. Why wouldn’t I want my small kids to catch a cold and then be up all night because they are coughing and miserable and can’t breathe through their noses?

Sorry, but it's just life with a young kid.

We all got the stomach bug. We haven't even cooked ONE thanksgiving item- it's all still sitting in the fridge. We are all wiped out. We'd rather feel better.

I guess we as a society will be forever living in a sterile evironment. Really fun.

There’s a difference between a sterile environment and not going out and purposely infecting others with a cold that should be kept home.

Yeah, even pre-COVID, no one was thrilled when someone showed up to the holidays with a hacking cough or an obviously sick kid, anymore than they liked their co-worker who came to work sick and spread their germs around the office. People who are sick should stay home to help avoid spreading illness. And what's "just a cold" to a healthy kid or young adult can lead to pretty serious complications in an older person.
