Hey, Sidwell receives a lot of applications and has to reject a lot of good candidates, because they don't have enough space for everyone. I certainly wouldn't take it personally.

You must not have been applying to the Upper School.

Rather than focus on the AD, you should comment on the entire process. Some schools are more personalized, with small groups, while others tend to impersonal. Sidwell just had too many people on the tours together. While Maret offered a more intimate experience. Just got the Maret Admission's survey where parents can comment on the various aspects of the process.

Please do not use ad hominem attacks. Your assumption that a poster who has a negative impression of an AD and voices it in this forum must be biadsed by her child's rejection by that school is completely unfounded. I have a negative impression of some the ADs of schools that did admit my child.

PP -- most ADs play a very significant role in shaping school culture. They are the link between the outside world and their school community. Depending on the size of the school you will find members of the admission test teaching reading, administering school assessments and sometimes serving as the next school counselor. That said, however, parents should look well beyone the admission staff in selecting schools for their child.

It's not like the ADs are going to be teaching your child. Nor are they the head of school influcencing school culture. In fact at most schools you have very little contact with the AD once the admissions process is over. So whether or not you like the AD doesn't seem like a good reason not to apply to a school.

That being said my child didn't get into either Sidwell or Maret but I have a much more positive view of Maret's process becasue the admissions people were very friendly and welcoming while Sidwell was just awful.

PP here, this was not the c se with me. I did not say too much to her she just was very aloof for no reason but very different when it came to my child. I dunno, maybe she did not like something about my appearance? Anyhoo in the end DC going to another top school where we BOTH feel very welcomed!

AD's love the children but there are times when parents are PITA's from the first call and they are not invited to become part of the community.

As opposed to what, not liking your DC? They are paid and trained to have everyone think that their kids are highly attractice and loved by the school. Don't read too much into the accolades as often it is salesmanship. It ensures that they get the best applicant pool possible. Admiring your child plays right to the parent's ego.

I'm not the PP, but I read the post to mean that the AD should have been nice to both parent and child.
