Hardly anyone has posted anything positive about McKinley Tech. Once again, this thread has been taken over by the score obsessed white and Asian posters. No boosterism. DCUM will never get parents to speak to any HS school but Wilson and Walls because these threads get nasty fast.
So posters who bemoan McKinley's low standardized test scores and lack of diversity are clearly "score obsessed white and Asians?"
The problem is that McKinley Tech isn't on a par with Banneker academically, let alone Walls or Wilson at its most academic, vs. posters making factual statements on DCUM.

McKinley Tech offers some great resources and we were interested a few years ago for our STEM focused child. In the end, we couldn't get past the transportation logistics of getting across town or the fact that only 30% of the school is proficient in Math. Because its a bigger school, Wilson HS actually offers more STEM courses (although DCPS wants to keep that a secret, because they really, really want McKinley Tech to be known as the STEM school).
This is true. Ask McKinley Tech about their AP CS scores. They have an IT Academy. They didn’t even get any 3’s. Only 1’s and 2’s. Some of the teachers are pretty weak. Combine that with kids who have not been prepared well by their middle school. The principal commutes from 2 hours away and has no STEM background and is also the principal of McKinley middle school.

OK, but what about the white and Asian DC kids who are? The options for those not zoned for Wilson are....what? BASIS from 5th grade or privates?
