This is true. Ask McKinley Tech about their AP CS scores. They have an IT Academy. They didn’t even get any 3’s. Only 1’s and 2’s. Some of the teachers are pretty weak. Combine that with kids who have not been prepared well by their middle school. The principal commutes from 2 hours away and has no STEM background and is also the principal of McKinley middle school.

Sounds like typical DCPS dysfunction. I think DCPS is racist if this is the best they can offer all our children (majority black and brown children).

Let's all pretend that the 30% proficient in math part has nothing to do with class, DC's racially segregated housing stock in much of the city 60 years on from the CRM, the WTU protecting weak teachers and lack of ES and MS challenge in DCPS for the highest performers.

McKinley Tech offers some great resources and we were interested a few years ago for our STEM focused child. You seem confused. Most white and Asian parents who post about DCPS schools other that Walls do so only to complain about how horrible they are and how all the “disruptive” kids need to be segregated away from their brilliant snowflakes. That attitude is what’s behind the low percentage of minority kids at those schools.

DCPS schools exist to serve the kids who register for those schools, not the white and Asian denizens of DCUM who send their kids to private and claim they’d use DCPS if only there were G&T programs or a “rigorous” academic magnet.

Everyone does realize that even at BASIS kids score 1’s and 2’s. More kids get 3’s than 5’s? 3’s are celebrated at BASIS.
