I don't bring one. No one in my social circle needs anything and can afford anything they want, especially more gifts/toys. "Gifts not necessary" I assume means "we really don't want more crap, but if you just cannot fathom showing up empty handed, do what makes you feel best." So, I am perfectly fine bringing nothing as I personally don't want more stuff and always say no gifts on invitations. I do have my kids make a nice card.

If they say no gifts I bring no gifts. It’s the people that *do* bring gifts anyway that should be embarassed.

People who can’t follow instructions bring gifts. When I host a party and say, “no gifts,” it’s not some kind of secret code. I literally do not want you to bring a gift. You attending the party is sufficient, and I’m grateful you take the time to do so. I think it’s bizarre that so many people can’t understand that.

I take a card.

I loved them when they were a thing (kid was younger) and would bring a card with a homemade “gift certificate for a pizza and movie at our place”. Nobody took us up on it thankfully (kids weren’t close friends of my kid anyway).

My child likes making a card, and sometimes he will pick out some stickers with the kids’ favorite cartoon character so we will include that.

If your kids have too much stuff stop buying so much. Parties are to are to celebrate the child. Part of that is gifts. Mentioning gifts is tacky.

This is not the actual etiquette. You are always allowed to “mention gifts” to say “no gifts, please.”
