I will never claim it’s an easy fix. It most certainly isn’t! Whatever we enact it needs to be enacted nationally because we don’t have borders between states. Individual states’ laws mean nothing. I think that’s the biggest issue, and it’s what frustrates me most when people trot out the “But, Chicago…” talking point.
For a start, I’d like to see this enacted nationally:
A higher threshold for purchasing a gun, and it should include quality mandatory training (including de-escalation, risk avoidance techniques). We definitely need a higher threshold for open carry. We need to enforce gun confiscation for criminals and those deemed mentally unfit. We need liability for gun sellers and makers.
There are other things….and, again, it’ll take a while before things start looking better. But, we can’t sit here and do nothing.
The way to do something is to ban them all and take it out of everyone’s hands. Insane people don’t think they are insane and so long as guns are readily available in this country the tragedies will never stop

I wanted a gun because I live alone. Also, I think it’s important that more Black people educate themselves about guns and become gun owners. I don’t think guns are for everyone. But, it’s important to look at what’s happening around you. If we don’t educate ourselves, we become like sitting ducks.
Again, I’m 100% for gun reform. While I continue to vote for people who will make this happen, I’m making sure I can protect myself if need be.
As it is right now, it’ll take decades for us to see any change after we enact common-sense gun reform.
People who want gun reform are not anti-gun.
thanks for the contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country. Gullible people watch fox news and think crime is out of control, they rush out and buy a bunch of weapons of war. Some eventually have mental issues or have stress or their kids get bullied and suddenly they either turn the gun on themselves or go out and hurt a lot of people. It's just tragic at this point.
Your hysteria and hyperbole helps absolutely nothing. I am not contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country.

Interdasting.
Someone disagreed with a progressive so... they lost their mind.
A new progressive. Old progressives would not have used to term white trash.
Millennials are less concerned with sensitivities. I see it all the time.

Hopefully, we can overcome voter suppression and make this happen. (Voter protection laws should be the top priority for the Biden Administration!)
All that said, I am a Black woman who purchased her first gun (a Glock 9mm) last month.
It’s important to have more Black gun owners….especially Black women. I’ll de dammed if I let republican Qooks be the only gun owners in this country.
Curious why you bought your first gun, PP. Do you live or work in a dangerous area?
I’ve wanted one for years, but I never got off my butt to get one. The opportunity presented itself when I went to the Gun Show at Dulles Expo, so I got it.
I’ll also note, I was thrilled to see there were many Black people at the gun expo.
I do not work of live in a dangerous area….but, I am a single woman.
Good for you. Congratulations! If you haven’t already, take a gun safety course and go to the range to get used to handling, loading, firing, and unloading checking it is clear. Keep it locked too unless you don’t have kids / kids in the house ever.
This is what responsible gun owners do. Magically, the gun won’t get up and load itself and start randomly shooting people like many anti-gun nuts will claim. Shooting crimes, accidents, and suicides are about people, not about an inanimate tool.
Thanks for the advice. I actually went to a local range before buying the gun. (I had a gun-owning relative with me to show me everything.) It turns out my aim is pretty damn good! 😁😁
I know how to take the gun apart and clean it. I live alone, so I’m not worried about anyone else loading it. I do keep it secure, though.
I’m not an “anti-gun nut,” but I’m very much for gun reform. It’s desperately needed. There are many gun owners who believe we need gun reform….despite what gun nuts would have everyone believe.
Awesome. Sounds like you’re handling it perfectly! I tend to agree on gun reform but I also get the slippery slope argument. What would be in your gun reform bill?

Violent gun violence is skyrocketing in our country and every night there is a shooting in DC.

I am curious why you thought you need a gun in the first place. Are you not somewhere where police is nearby? You know you are far more likely to use that gun on yourself than an criminal right?
I’m curious why you feel the need to interrogate her about her choices to protect herself. Why do you give yourself such authority over a woman?
Thanks for contributing to the problem. Gullible People watch Fox News and get scared by the lie that crime is out of control, they go out and buy weapons of war on mass. Some have mental issues or their kids get bullied and suddenly lots of people die. You gun nutters are insane!
I am not I am just curious to her reasoning. I don’t think most gun owners are aware of how of a danger they are to themselves and others versus some imaginary home invasion scenario a good pair of locks would solve
