OP here. Thanks for the replies!

I will put the big stuff for the completion discount. Most of the items on the baby registry are under $50. We have some that are $50-100, and some that are $100-200.

We are having a shower with family and some close friends. The rest will be sending us gifts ( all asked what to send us) but my family will likely be the ones to buy the higher ticket items. I will put the breastfeeding stuff on it, but I think I will keep the after care stuff off and buy it.

Having my second. No shower or sprinkle even though it’s a 5 year gap. Using my private registry mainly as a way to manage what I need to buy myself. Feels tacky to do anything with Covid

I didn't put expensive items on my registry only because a friend gave us a hand-me-down bugaboo stroller she was done with and everything else I wanted and put on the registry wasn't that expensive. I do wish I'd put a convertible car seat and rocker on there. I bought those later and didn't get the discount because it had expired by then. Both were expensive. I'd add them or make a separate registry for you so you can get a discount.

I thought the whole point of a registry was to give people a range of items they can buy they you will actually use. The only problem is they need to buy the items by a certain time otherwise you need to. I don't see a problem with high ticket items as long as you have cheap items too.

Some people are generous and they know being a first time parent is expensive.

My BIL bought us the Uppa Baby Vista and if I recall my parents bought us our crib. We kind of left the big ticket items to immediate family who wanted to splurge on us and put more reasonable items on the registry.

I did to keep track of everything I wanted and was surprised when some of the more expensive items were purchased (a couple individually and a couple as group gifts from my husband’s office…one woman apparently collected money from everyone interested in contributing and bought two $$$$ items with it).

We did for the grandparents and some very generous family/friends. I didn't expect anyone to buy anything and there were a ton of cheaper things too.

I am buying an outfit and calling it “done”. I am responsible for my own children’s material needs and don’t think I need to finance yours. Sorry for my rant and congrats on the baby.

Not OP. A baby shower is supposed to help provide things a new baby needs. Without a registry, it's impossible to accomplish this because no one knows what you need and people duplicate. You'll just end up with a million baby blankets, 5 Sophies, and a bunch of impractical, cute newborn outfits. I've never been to a baby shower with 100 people and I assume you wouldn't open the gifts at the party with that many guests. You are not obligated to go just because you were invited.
