4) Repeat steps 1 -3 at every game.

Excellent advice. I tended to skip 3 though and save it for the next meeting. I once gave best play of the game for a throw-in.

THIS.

It's worked wonders for our family through the years.

Why is your 9 year old on this team? That’s your problem.

OP here. That wasn’t me. I don’t know what a center forward is. My kid was playing defense with the little girl. The teams ages are 7-9. It’s Great Falls-Reston. FWIW, I think the little girl is from Great Falls. She sometimes comes to practice in cute little skorts and her hair all done up. Makes me gag. Then she steals the ball and kicks it the wrong way.

Perhaps you and your daughter were confused, and your daughter was going the wrong way.

She's 7 years old. She's a 9 (center forward) on the team.

You are using numeric designations in 7 yo rec soccer?

Oh boy.

You need to settle down. A lot.

I’m hoping pp was not OP and was just being sarcastic.

I missed that. At that age it is probably 4v4.

Tell your daughter to steal the ball from the other girl when she gets the ball

Why is it so easy for a 7 year old to steal the ball from your 9 year old?

Given how OP has described her kid, I suspect she’s not very good at dribbling/passing and tends to just stand with the ball unless she gets an opening to boot it down then field. Makes it very easy (and tempting for other players to take it to keep play moving).

Stop yelling at children. If you must, yell at your own only.

What’s wrong with what I yelled? The kid needs direction and our coach isn’t giving it.

You truly don’t know what you did wrong?!

1) coaching from the sideline (barely acceptable when directed solely at your own child)
2) coaching ANOTHER PERSON’S CHILD from the sidelines - absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances

Op, dual it back or the only person the coach will call out during a game is you.

My 9yo daughter is playing GFR rec. I can understand why this happens. All the girls clump up and there's only a couple skilled girls to take care of business.

I would have zero problems with a star taking the ball from my kid and dribbling all the way downfield.

I also would have no problems with all the parents yelling "same team" to the ball thief.

But I also don't care enough to say anything because it's very clearly rec soccer and I'm just happy to see the girls laugh and enjoy their exercise.

You should write an email to the whole team and call out the player, parent and coach. Thats the only way this situation ends.

Every team has this kid. This kid persists until they move from possession play into passing. Then this kid gets with the program or doesn't. The fact remains that some kids just move the ball better than others and make quicker decisions. Is it possible your kid is a slow decision maker?

The soccer dad totally understands. A few months ago I went to a practice in my cute little skorts and my hair all done up. I stole the ball from ONE kid--JUST ONE--and some random soccer mom gave me the side-eye and dragged me off.
