Haha! Same here. I wonder how many of the early talkers are parents projecting words on babbling.
My first kid was easy to tell. He was super consistent. My second was not. It felt like she was still babbling mama at the same time that she was starting to say it with intention. I have no idea. In any case, one of her baby sign language signs became an actual spoken word, and so it was easier to tell then.
Like most things with parenting, experiences vary wildly.

My 34 week preemie was an early talker. Starting at around 8 months with mama and had around a dozen words by 1, over 250 by 18 months (I kept a list) and a few short sentences such as I love you, I want that. He started to identify letters around then too.

My first was only saying "Cookie!" when he was one, my H and I asked the pediatrician if he might be intellectually challenged.
