I’m an average driver—pretty good when I’m not in a rush, which does happen on occasion. When I’m in a rush I pass on the right, speed up to make it just before it turns red, etc. I don’t speed a lot just because I’m afraid of getting a ticket.

I’m a terrible regular Parker. On a regular basis, I have to adjust a lot because I somehow park in a way where the other car’s door wouldn’t be able to open.

But I’m an excellent parallel Parker, and pretty good at backing in. I think I just pay more attention when I’m doing those moves.

I'm a pretty good parker, but helped along by the fact I have a smaller car so it's easier. I was actually once complemented on my parallel parking job by a stranger!

Please stop driving until you learn to fully pay attention. Your behavior is incredibly dangerous.

NP, but some people have ADHD, Susan. Or other conditions, for that matter. Perhaps no one with imperfect vision (even with glasses), a slight tremor, chronic fatigue, slower than average reflexes, etc. should ever drive until they learn not to have those conditions.

I am much like the above poster-- which is to say, I have some excellent habits, too, but I'm aware of my deficits and never stop trying to improve. Yet I also accept that I may never be better than a mediocre driver. Still, I'm at least mediocre. I've gotten into only one very minor fender-bender that was my fault. My driving record, while not spotless, is average or above average. A speeding ticket or two, but not in a long time, and no other traffic violations.

Your comment is just silly, really. It serves no purpose other than to make PP aware they have a problem they've already admitted to, or to shame a person who is already self-conscious and very likely does try their best to reduce its effects. If this were someone who said they drive despite having become legally blind or drive drunk, that would be one thing. But "I'm not a great driver, I get distracted, but I've never caused an accident?" Just take half of the population's licenses away.

That's okay, though-- I know you weren't proposing that. You only posted your comment to feel superior.

Struck a nerve since you’re a dangerous driver too? And a moron. Thanks for outing yourself with your long rambling rant.

+1
People with certain medical problems that impact their driving should NOT drive. If you have slow reflexes or get distracted and you KILLED someone, how could you live with yourself? That's why licenses have things like "Corrective Lenses" on them. Because it's medical and if you are not wearing them you could kill somebody. Cars are not a joke.

Ok parker normally, but cannot parallel park...not even with the automated parallel parking.

Do you actually enjoy driving? Such that nothing really irks you on any trip?

I've had two driving tickets in my life but none in the last 22 years and only one parking ticket ever.
Me again. I meant to say that it's not up to someone to say that they're a good driver or not BUT I'm going to say that I'm average.

I don't think it's up to someone to say whether they're a good driver or not so I'm going to say that I'm average.

I am a terrible driver and parker because my parents (who taught me to drive) are both terrible drivers.

It is impossible to be a good driver and bad parker (or the reverse). The #1 most important thing in both, is having a good sense of space and your surroundings.

Unless it involves tight parallel parking, there's no reason for ANY parking to be so challenging. You know you can take 3 seconds to straighten your car and try again, right?

*parallel park, not double park

I am an amazing driver, mostly because I don’t eat, drink, text, etc while driving. Plus I look ahead

I am very envious of people who can double park with ease, in just one fluid move. How do you do it?

I'd say I'm a good driver- no accidents in the 21 years I've been driving. My husband says I drive like a granny though, but he's bad several accidents so...

Parking is a different story. I'm ok at parking spaces I guess but parallel parking is horrific, like a foot, or more, off the curb every time. I have a hard time visualizing where the points of the car in relation to stationary cars and curbs.

Great at parking, not great at driving. I get nervous and flustered easily, especially when other drivers are being aggressive or the weather is poor. No tickets or accidents, but I'm sure I piss people off waiting and being overly cautious in situations like left turns without an advance or merging.

I laugh at all of you who think “you’re a great driver but terrible at parking”.

I love you. That is all.

I drive too fast, but I've only had one speeding ticket (25 years ago) and I've never been in an accident that was my fault (just two that were minor and the other driver's fault).

I always park as far away from the store as I can, because I drive a Takoma with an access cab (the rear door opens the opposite way as the front door). If someone parks too close to me, I can't load my groceries.

I don't back in because it's stupid and makes other people wait, but I will pull through sometimes. I haven't parallel parked since I moved away from the DMV.

People with poor spatial awareness are usually bad drivers and parkers. Similarly, this is usually correlated with poor sense of direction.

  • I don’t tailgate.

  • I generally drive in the right lane on highways and, related to this, I tend to drive the speed of the surrounding traffic rather than slavishly driving posted speed limits.

  • My policy for right turn on red, for changing lanes, for left hand turns where I yield: I do not want to cause other drivers to have to change speed.

  • I reserve use of my horn for serious situations, which is to say, I rarely use it.

  • I am an excellent driver, A+. I do all of the above and have never gotten a traffic ticket and never caused an accident. My parking is a B however.
