Not true. If you ever attend a meeting, they present a budget for the year. Our school uses the funds for things like after school classes, to fund field trips, a $75 stipend for each teacher to spend on classroom supplies.

Our school uses the money to buy hundreds of iPads abs elaborate catered lunches for “staff appreciation.” Pass.

Tell me about these catered lunches. Our school does a breakfast potluck and a grill day with burgers and hot dogs.

NP. We have a catered lunch and most of us don’t like it. Would prefer they use the money for other things. They tell us lunch is being provided by the PTA and we need to come at this time and then say it’s a working lunch as a faculty meeting or professional development. I would much rather skip the lunch and eat alone in my room and have a little quiet time if that’s possible. I always feel bad for the PTA who tries to plan these nice things to have admin use them as meetings we don’t want to attend.

Staff appreciation comes once a year. You sound like a peach of a parent…inset eye roll

My child’s school did the American heart association Jump fundraiser and then they got prizes from their teacher when the online portal where you had to donate hit certain levels.

I hated it, it felt like extortion. We give to charities each year, we donate to the school, and I found it awful that my child was coming home reporting that all the other kids had raise $100 and got a bracelet and charms (or whatever). We were in a really wealthy school district, so I totally believe that.

We are now at a private school and I’m very happy to just write a check. It’s not about the money, it’s about feeling forced to donate.
