You know some UNvaccinated people have had the same mild reactions. Getting Covid is not a guarantee that you’ll be vented and/or die. And having had breakthrough case, I can also tell you that being vaccinated does not mean everyone will have a mild case like the sniffles. The hyperbole on the pro-vaccines side is as great as the anti-vaccine side. So much BS going around it is too bad we can’t mine methane from it.

Floridian here again-um, not sure if you missed this fact over the summer, but where I am, 98% of people hospitalized for covid were not vaccinated. So, science is showing that being vaccinated is really good prevention against hospitalization and death. I am aware that many unvaccinated people have had very mild cases. And PP, if you had a more than mild case even after vaccination-how do you think it would have been if you weren't vaccinated? Think about it.

You do realize only 2-3% of people with Covid die and the majority are over 50 and have underlying health conditions, right? I know at least two dozen people who got Covid. Most of them were over 50 and none of them died or were hospitalized including my 70-year-old great aunt with diabetes. She had Covid and got over it without a hospital. Yes, the odds are even lower with a vaccine but 2% is enough for me considering our family is still masking and social distancing. I could spread Covid to someone else but you can still spread with the vaccine.
Those aren't conspiracy theories, they're facts.

You can still get pregnant if you use birth control. Does that mean you might as well not use it to prevent pregnancy, since it can happen either way?
And guess what? UK and Israel studies show that natural immunity is better than immunity from vaccines. At this point it would be in our best interest to let both get the virus and work on Covid treatments.

I would have some gentle, non judgmental conversations with the parent who claims not to be anti vaccine. What is the reason they give for not getting vaccinated if they’re not anti vaccine? Are they scared their spouse might be right about vaccines being dangerous? Are they scared of their spouse’s reaction if they get vaccinated? Do they think it would have a negative impact on their marriage? I think you need to understand their reasoning in order to make any headway.

My SIL's divorced parents are like this. Dad's side is vaccinated. Mom's side is not. It's too painful for her when we talk about vaccinations in her house. I can't imagine. The worst part if her mom's family has been relatively unscathed while her grandmother died of COVID a while back...because of unvaxed idiots.
Or just take them to get the J&J.

I also know a lot of people who have had covid. I live in Fl, so...anyhow, two of those were 43 and 29, they died and left behind spouses and young kids.

Current covid hosptializations and deaths where? In the US as a whole, or the DC metro area?
I have an interest in another state (not DMV area) so I've been specifically following that states stats--and that state is NOT at all like your stats above...so I was just curious where your stats are coming from. Thanks.

It's hard. I'd offer to host your pro vax parent for a weekend. Take them to get the vaccine, and let them stay with you for a few days to ward off side effects. Repeat in a month.
