That hasn’t been true since I was a kid. Most video gamers are in the 30 to 45 year old range. They have the most income to spend and drive the market. Many of them just game variously through their kids by buying them the games and hardware.

I am a 39 yo man. And I don’t play video games.

That's great. Plenty of "Grown Ass Men" do though. My partner is very "grown", and is also bright enough to not randomly capitalize words mid sentence.

Wonder if either of you oh so grown men spend much time watching other "grown ass men" throwing a ball up a down a field?

First, I would have never married a gamer.

However, you could substitute *video game time* with literally anything:

How much time playing golf is reasonable?

How much time biking/running is reasonable?

Men and women should have hobbies. Those hobbies, which are not bringing in money (or very rarely), should have a set time frame. 14 hours a day is not reasonable. Honestly 14 hours at work is not even reasonable. Hobbies should be limited so that they are not distracting from work, family, upkeep of the house/cars/yard.

I read books daily. I garden multiple times a week. If I spent too much time on either it would affect my spouse, kids, and responsibilities.

14 hours a week is way more reasonable. Talk to him and find a new balance.

I'm a grown ass man that plays video games, usually by myself. When younger and single, I was an avid gamer (approx. 3 hours a day almost every day) but I didn't have responsibilities.

It's still a hobby but now I play only when it doesn't distract from my work and family and only in a way that doesn't set a bad example for my kids. Therefore, I play maybe 1 hour a day 2-3 times a week and only when everyone is out of the house or asleep. If I play while the family is present, then it's a game that we can all play (typically a dancing game or something "classic" like Pac-Man or Mario).

Video games aren't any worse than any other hobby (and I'd argue they're more beneficial than people who spend the same amount of time watching/binging Netflix) as long as they're played responsibly.

I don't even understand how 14 hours is possible. Figure 8 hours of work, 1 hour a day commuting, 6 or 7 hours of sleep, 2 hours of eating, personal hygiene and other stuff, that's 18 hours so only 6 left over. Does this guy not have a job, is that how he can play for 14 hours?

I had one living with me. Never came out of his room except to go to the bathroom. Prisoners had more freedom of movement. He easily played 12 hours a day, waking up after noon and playing late into the night. Did it for years. A decade really after high school. Flunked out of high school because he could not get up to attend.

OP, if you and the kids left him he wouldn't even notice unless you disabled he wifi on your way out or something.

And I agree with the grown-ass ass-men posting here: this is not the behavior or adults.

My DH does this too but it certainly doesn’t take away from his work or time with his family. He may do it as a brain break or does it minimally compared to all the other things he does.

I strongly disagree. I don't play games much, but I do like to use Zwift (a video game connected to my exercise bike) and play chess on my phone sometimes. My sons play NBA 2k a few hours on the weekend. I don't see why these are problems.

Fair. I say 0 because it’s too addictive for most. Doesn’t appear addictive for you. My point is to go cold turkey on things you can’t do in moderation, like Netflix.

I too, am a grown ass man. But I play video games. I play Mario Kart with my daughter. Sometimes, we play Mario Olympics too. Or, our whole family will play this fun game called Overcooked; its 4 player, a lot of fun and super silly.

But I, as a grown ass man, do not play video games without one of my two children. (and even when we do it, its usually 30 minutes, after dinner & any schoolwork is done)

Mature MEN do not spend hours playing games. I'm mid 40s with a highly successful career. Yes, I pay mobile games off and on as a break. But, many items come beforehand: work, family, social, interests, etc.
