Subject: MCCPTA vs. school PTAs
We can thank the MCCPTA for all the new school violence and them failing to protect our kids by removing the SRO's.
I have zero interest in my child participating in restorative justice. The bullies apologize and no consequences. The victim has to listen to the bullies fake apology knowing tomorrow the same thing will happen. Taking away consequences when parents fail to parent kids is why we are having many issues at the schools.

Agree, MCCPTa has done some amazing mobilizing. Far more than the crew of vocal vanilla moms who don't care about safety and have hijacked equity arguments to suit their own needs. i'll see the at a restorative justice workshop or BLM meeting? or nah.

How does one go about this?
Contact the MCCPTA committee you are interested in being a part of. There are many: health and wellness, DEI, ESOL, special ed, gifted ed, communications, and more. Also you can become a delegate at your child's school and get involved that way. Delegates vote on matters. You can also volunteer to be a cluster coordinator.

Donate to the school directly - books to the library, ask the teacher what supplies she needs, etc. At least you know your money is not being embezzled.
MDPTA had (or also had) the financial issues.

The MCCPTA Special Education Committee is currently recruiting special education representatives as part of their child's PTA and part of a larger network of advocates. Contact specialed@mccpta.org.
There is a reason these committees are always recruiting. There is a reason no one is signing up or if they do they leave quickly.

I worked far harder than our PTA president. And, watching them waste the money I fundraised for made me realize its a waste of my time and to directly give to the school.

Between these ridiculous items and their support for busing, it is little wonder many people aren't joining the PTA in MoCo. The best option is to create a school-based foundation. That way, none of your donations are used against you by MCCPTA.
Sometimes it's more time-consuming to do the school-based foundation. Our PTA Board in general, cannot stand the MCCPTA so we do the minimal amount (obtain 25 members). Everything else we do (fundraising, volunteerism, etc.) 100% benefits our local school. We don't even have an MCCPTA Delegate/Rep.
