Santa Clara University
University of San Diego
University of San Francisco
Pepperdine
University of Miami

Make sure your kid does not relegate themselves to the Cotton Belt just because they want warm weather.

As suggested by a few others, UNC Asheville has an environmental studies department. Location is beautiful and Asheville is a great town.

If you couldn’t get into W&M you couldn’t get into Wake. Unless you are full pay private school student.


that’s probably true for virginia residents but not necessarily everyone else

What?? I grew up literally 2 blocks from Rhodes and it is in the middle (midtown area) of the city of Memphis . Nice campus and Rhodes is a great school but Memphis is a city of 650,000 and Knoxville has 186,000 so if OP’s kid thought Knoxville was too big city then Memphis is way too big.

If you couldn’t get into W&M you couldn’t get into Wake. Unless you are full pay private school student.

Some schools that come to mind are University of Mary Washington, Christopher Newport, Rhodes, Eckerd, and Furman.

Came here to post this. My niece is a freshman there and was looking for most of the same things. It is REALLY small and very Southern but if that's what you want it might be a good fit.
