So the taking after your parents thing isn't always true. My mother was 5'9 and big boned and I turned out 5'4 and petite. We all assumed our 2 year old would follow after me because she was on the smaller side the entire pregnancy but quickly shot up in the first 3-4 months after she was born, and has stayed there consistently. She is the same size at 2 (98%) as I was at 3, and her body type looks more like my mother, tall and big boned.

We also have a tall (90-95%) 6 year old and his body type seems to take after my husband (5'11").

I was a huge baby (10lb at birth) and always in the 99th percentile. I did end up 5’8” (tallish for a woman) but otherwise average (Sz 6 before kids)

Op here - thanks got the replies. It’s all a guessing game I know that but DS just seems ridiculously huge compared to his sisters at the same age. I just got new shoes for him. They are a 8–9T. At 18 months old. My 5 year old daughter is in a 11T shoe. He is going to out pace her soon.

Haha, no. My baby was 80 percentile for length at one point and off the chart for weight. I mean rolls upon rolls. She started slipping down the charts around 18 mos to 2. By kindergarten she was 10th percentile for height and 25 for weight. Now at age 9 she’s around 5th percentile for both. We had her evaluated by two different pediatric endocrinologists, and both said she’s healthy. Dad is average height and weight, mom is tall and thin. I guess we’ll see if she catches up around puberty — her dad’s father and siblings all had constitutional growth delay.

My almost 23" at birth baby has been in the 90+ percentile for height at every checkup.

I had pretty small babies and now at 5 & 7 they are considered tall for height and average for weight. Mom is small & petite, dad is average sized and tall - I think only time will tell how the kids turn out for size and height.

Yep, though the jump in percentiles didn't happen until she was 3. Was born at 37 weeks over 8 pounds and stayed in the 75-80th percentile until she jumped up to the high 90's at 3. Still there at age 6 and the pediatrician says she'll stay on that growth curve until puberty, then it may shift again.

My boys were average size at birth, but quickly jumped to 98th+ percentile and have so far stayed that way. Oldest is almost 6 and is the same size as our 3rd and 4th grade neighbors.

DH was supposedly a tall kid, but not even close to how big my boys are for their ages. He says he stopped growing earlier than most boys- was 6’0” at age 13 and then stopped. We have some tall men on my side, so I’m expecting at least my oldest will be 6’3”+.

Funnily enough, my daughter was the big baby at birth, but is now smaller than average for her age.

Take a copy of his birth certificate in case a flight attendant gives you trouble, but I sincerely hope they would just take your word for it.

But plenty of us are short and are married to tall people. So it’s up in the air how tall our kids will be. I’m 5’1 and Dh is 6’3.

I had big babies- 9.10 and 10.3. They dropped percentiles when then started walking. I also always had way more milk than they’d eat. They just weren’t hungry. They are very tall and thin like Dh. Whereas my friends’ kids who are fatter/chunkier were smaller at birth. I think babies follow your genes and not how big they were as babies.
