We had it at my DD’s last school and it was terrible. Incorrect orders, extremely small portions, cold food. It’s at her new school as well but we are staying away. She said the first week was terrible with many people not getting lunch at all because of an ordering screw up.

We’re not doing it regularly because cost is just too high and reviews aren’t great.

Serving sizes are small
Prices are high (especially since you have to add on items to make it a full meal)
I usually send in a fruit and a snack to supplement the Yay lunch.

However, our small school doesn't offer any other options and packing lunch for 2 kids 5 days a week is just brutal. So it's a gift to me to get a break from packing lunch once or twice a week.

I have a very picky eater so I don’t expect to use Yay lunch much at our new school, but my kid came home talking about how disorganized the process of handing out the food is (this is on the school, not Yay lunch). Apparently it took half the lunch period for some kids to get their food. Until a better system is in place at the school I’m not even bothering to look at the menus.

Was really hoping our school would drop Yay Lunch but they brought them back for another year. It’s the exact same menu every single week (bagel day, “Asian” food day, smoothie day, pizza day, and one other).

Yep. Room temp pizza, congealed grilled cheese. I understand it can be logistically difficult for these businesses, but you can’t serve this to kids and expect people to continue paying for it.

This is not my DC’s experience at all. Food is warm when DC gets it.

A lot of schools turned to it during the pandemic because everything was individually wrapped and helped support restaurants, but it is almost always cold by the time it gets to the kids, so I wouldn't recommend now.

Thanks….ok good to know but disappointing. I was also surprised at how most of the days there are no vegetables or fruit.

Did it get better? DC starting new school w yay lunch. If the hot food isn’t hot when served…… well that’s the main reason I’d order it.

Our kid's school uses Yay Lunch. I'm not sure how it works elsewhere, but her school has Asian and Smoothie days (which are her favorites and appear to be pretty healthful). Other days, the options include mostly sandwiches, which, as others have mentioned, tend to be cold by the time she gets them, even if they should be served warm.

What a shame! Thanks for the feedback. I love the concept but the execution seems problematic.

We were initially excited about having a school lunch option, but haven’t been thrilled with the lack of variety and the unhealthy options. Our kindergartener likes it, but to me it’s been disappointing.
