With temps of 109+ on an exposed trail with no shade, it could just have been a misjudgment of the hike, the elevation of Devil's Gulch and ignorance of the microclimate, much like that jogger, Kreycik.

If EC was unhappy or struggling, and we don't have conclusive evidence that she was, it is still possible to die accidentally. The elevation gain out of that canyon is significant, enough that the one trail has switchbacks. If the dog or baby or 1 adult was impacted by heat, forward progress would stop. It is also possible it was planned, we may never know. No note was left and the bodies degraded in the heat which would impact tox and autopsy findings.

The sheriff stated that some of the tox results were back, they have not released them. Nothing can be read into that fact. More will be known in time.

They moved because Jon was able to work remotely due to cv. He wanted the baby to have a rural childhood as he did.

You don’t know why they moved. He might have told people it was to work from home or let the kid grow up in the wild but other factors could have been at play. Namely, his wife.

Changing jobs so that he could continue to work from home is what enabled them to move out of SF, remote work expanded greatly due to cv. He already owned property in the Mariposa area and it was a bit reminiscent of where he grew up in the UK. I imagine with cv and a pregnant wife and soon to be newborn, living in the forest seemed healthier on many levels.

Exactly and much simpler than explaining your spouse is a big polar nut job that wanted to party all night and sleep all day.
Y’all need to wake up to the “facts” and quit with the pussyfooting around.

Few "facts" have been released by LE. There is no basis that either of the deceased was a "bipolar nut job" and Mariposa does not offer opportunities to "party all night." You sound a bit unhinged yourself. I suspect you are the poster who claimed the woman "slept all day" there is no evidence that is true.

Are you old enough to be here? People can party in any location. Mariposa is well known for parties and I ain’t taking S’mores around the campfire. Furthermore, I never said she slept all day. The above post says nothing about partying in Mariposa..
obvious things don’t require facts. Occam’s Razor.

Oh is the “sleuth” team on this again? How much time have they wasted discussing completely irrelevant topics. Gerrish-Chung had water remaining. The baby carrier was at the scene with the baby in It.
The day trip wasn’t about self preservation. It was about leaving this life.

Yup and one even said it’s too complicated to get into phones and the rocket scientist that rep,ied agreed and went on to add “they won’t even try.” Forget the fact Briese told us the FBI obtained SW for the phones.

They do have a verified backpack specialist if you have questions pertaining to backpacks.

This investigation is way beyond the scope of Sheriff Briese.
He has even told us of the involvement of the CHP, CA-DOJ and FBI. A small county Sheriff lacks resources and knowledge for a major investigation. Bries’s main role is that of coroner. His posse probably has no idea what’s going on.
The CSU from Fresno took over the crime scene.

Do you by chance have the dimensions of the baby carrier used? What was the pattern/color?
Do you think the bladder was filled to the brim before leaving home or partially filled?

If you scan the kind of calls the SO routinely handle, it is obvy why finding any deceased person would stun them.

Loose dogs, trapped cat, rattle snake, trespassing….
Thankfully the crime scene unit from Fresno and FBI back them up.

As someone who grew up in SF and vacationed not in Mariposa County, but Tuolumne and Stanislaus, I am inclined to think this is a murder-suicide committed by or to a drug-abusing vegan. That, or some freak accident involving the government, or they were murdered by illegal pot growers. There are illegal pot growers ALL over California, and they can and do kill people who accidentally stumble upon their operations.

The fentanyl thing is hilarious. I guarantee the sheriff would be shouting fentanyl from the rooftops if that's what killed them. Yes, toxicology takes a while blah blah blah, but the cops probably know everyone who this couple interacted with and these people seem too bougie to buy stepped on pot. I can also guarantee if they wanted weed, they could find good stuff either at dispensaries or from a local or Bay Area dealer.

Murder suicide committed by pissy druggy vegans or they snuck up on an illegal grow.

Do you think mom enjoyed dark, dirty diners, dusty museums and solidarity as much as
Upscale coffee shops, art shows and the busyness of SF?
Without knowing either and simply making assumptions I’d say each day for her was worse than the previous.

Hiking in one’s backyard, toting a kid and dog isn’t nearly as exhilarating as jetting off to foreign lands for a five star vacay. She clearly enjoyed being “seen” and that’s not wrong. I don’t believe she held the same passion for day hikes as Jon.
His work had to be stressful with long days.
I wonder if he persuaded Chung to do something productive so she started her online classes.
Early on a (supposed) former roommate of Chung’s posted Chung had never lived alone or had RL responsibilities other than her job. If true, she may have felt overwhelmed with tasks associated with living rural. In the city she had immediate availability and delivery services. Once in Mariposa running out of one item would be a hassle and a not so easy drive to the markets. I’ve lived both and while I prefer rural, city life is so much easier, so I always return to the burbs.
While some think of Chung as a strong, independent woman, I believe she was a “needy” personality type & Jon called the shots. As someone previously mentioned, Chung quit work almost immediately after meeting Jon. I realize she tweeted it was due to some health issue but she was able to do all the other stuff she enjoyed. I think she had a goal to snag a second wealthy guy, eventually doing so, but then came baby.

Pssst CA culture isnt much stranger than any other just bigger with more pissy druggy vegans they all over.

Lol now that's the truth.

Granted that this is 20 years old, but I grew up in Northern California (State of Jefferson, as locals sometimes call it) and while it is true that illegal marijuana grows were all over the place, the mode of death doesn't make sense for that theory.

If they'd been shot, or fallen into a pit trap or bear snare, yes. But something so mysterious that we still don't have answers? Not pot growers.

Exactly. The pot theory is as outlandish as believing the dad was carrying an exhausted dog and mom tried to run to the car for help.
For some reason people want to glorify the mom when it’s more likely than not she killed her family before taking her life. That is FOUL PLAY.
Utter silence from her grieving family supports mom being culpable.

So far they’ve found no sign of trauma, although they have not ruled out foul play.

Lmbo. Does HS fall into “foul play” category?
Of course there’s foul play.
People believing otherwise have yet to jump from the turnip truck.
