These aren’t blunders. Dementia and old age have robbed him of his filters, and he just says out loud whatever passes through his brain, even if he’s on camera. In that moment, he’s thinking like a businessman—ie, what he could do with this business opportunity presented by a failing airline—a businessman still stuck in the 1980s (when People Express went out of business). If you’ll notice, a lot of his references are to the 1980s and also the 1990s, his “peak” as a playboy businessman. Since he’s always in front of a camera or on social media, we keep getting his unfiltered, uninformed thoughts in what feels like a continuous stream. It’s pure ID all the time.

Until this percolates on Fox and the rightwing echo chamber, we're not going to see a fracture. Right now conservatives are peeling away from Trump because of high prices and the war. But they remain oblivious to his significant mental decline of recent months.
